OK this poor woman who has had all these recurrent plugs/mastitis has more
problems now. It sounds a bit like thrush to a certain extent. She had a
blister that she popped on her nipple and that helped relieve the plug, plus
she is on antibiotics for mastitis...but she was wondering "how fast can
thrush develop" (I figure that could depend partly on the mom's immune
system and what level it's at already?) and how long it takes to go away (I
remember gentian violet protocol as being 4-7 days, 24 hours after the last
symptoms disappear but don't know if you are treating it with another agent,
say difulcan, how long it takes...).

She says she's honestly not sure she won't wean at this point...her daughter
is just over a year, she never breastfed the first child so this is, in her
mind, "great" that she got to a year...she is in a lot of pain right now.
The mastitis pain is gone but it hurts to nurse and between nursing (which
is why I say it sounds like thrush maybe).

She also has oozy yellowish crusts on her nipples. Oh boy...I don't even
know where to begin on that one...allergy symptoms maybe?

She wondered about trying to get her daughter to take the left side, which
she hasn't taken in about 6 months now, and how long it would take to
relactate. I said she might not develop a "full production" like one would
get with a newborn, but as her daughter is over 1, taking some solids, it
might not matter so much if she is more comfort nursing. It might also be
hard to get her daughter to go back to that side by now...very hard. ;-)

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Fio
