In her syndicated column, Daytime Dial, Seli Groves responds to a soap opera
fan's suggestion that soaps could promote breastfeeding in public by showing
more characters breastfeeding their babies:

>>Dear Seli:

My daughter -- who has two children -- and I are big supporters of women who
want to breast-feed their children in public places.

We believe that if the soaps showed more characters breast-feeding their
babies, it would help to gain support for this move[ment]. Any chance that
it can happen? -- Diane M.

Dear Diane M:

I would think so. The soaps have traditionally been in the vanguard of
implementing social change, especially concerning women's issues.

With more evidence coming in every day about the health benefits that
breast-feeding brings to the child and mother, your campaign is likely to
gain support. One way to start is to write to each soap suggesting that this
be done.

And, of course, I invite everyone reading this column to clip it out and
send it along to the producers of their favorite shows.<<

WOO HOO!

Pat W (although not currently a soap opera watcher, I'm willing to clip and
send for the cause. :) )
