 How is hypersensitive skin a diagnosis, but okay--first baby has hypersensitive skin. Mom has eczema. Mom has a history of sinus infections, extensive use of ABX, baby has an all-over skin rash that doc says is an auto-immune response. Mom and babe have thrush. All of these are signs of allergy in the mom. I doubt cow milk products are the only allergy going on here and I doubt only the baby is allergic. I think Robin's suggestions are a good start, but it sounds to me like mom should see someone for gut permeability (a naturopath or homeopath) and look into healing her own gut. IMO, the onslaught of drugs is just going to make this a whole lot worse.

Like Robin. I would use GSE and possibly GV, and a probiotic. Also, I never suggest the use of yogurt--for one thing it is a cow milk product, for another a poor source of probiotic activity. Make huge dietary changes. Heal the gut!!!!

One clarification, though, homeopathy is a specific form of medicine that uses the medicines in a homeopathic preparation. Herbs, home remedies and the like are not homeopathic. Many of my clients with similar cases have had the best results seeing a naturopath and a classical homeopath.

Subject: all-over body rash and thrush case

Hello all,
I have permission to post. A mom called yesterday with a 3 month old baby=
.
She breastfed her first child 15 months. No problems. The first child was=

diagnosed with hypersensitive skin and the mother has excema.

Baby was born by c-section. Mom had antibiotics at the time. Had a seriou=
s
sinus infection and mom had a lot more antibiotics. About a week later ba=
by
had "fudgy" diahreeha, yeast on bottom, bad and baby has had white tongue=
,
clicking while nursing and now has a rash on her ENTIRE body that looks
horrible. She is scratching, crying and miserable.

Mom feels HORRIBLE like her milk is the cause of torture for this baby. T=
he
doctor has said the baby is having an autoimmune response to the yeast.

Mom is now dairy free (only for a week or so). Is doing all the usual yea=
st
treatments. She has done nystatin, lotrimin on baby's bottom and they hav=
e
both had the normal courses of anti-yeast drugs. Mom is very well informe=
d
and we spent a lot of time discussing the thrush treatment options listed=
 in
the Breastfeeding Answer Book. Mom says most of the soreness on the nippl=
es
is gone, but she feels it may now be in her ducts. Baby is nursing well, =
but
still has what mom classifies as diahrea and she is still having nipple p=
ain
however she is most worried about her baby.

Her main concern is the WHOLE body rash her baby now has. Is this dangero=
us?
A sign that something drastic should be done? She wasn't sure if she shou=
ld
wean (I didn't think so) or what could be done. I have dealt with yeast
before but was unsure of the all-over body rash thing.

I suggested that the baby might be allergic to disposable diapers and to
consider cloth. I suggested natural skin care products given the family
history too.

Thanks for any insight.

Hi Mickey,
Poor little one. Yeasty rashes ARE very itchy... Can the baby do oatmea=
l=20
soaks? The rash itself is not dangerous..The only danger would be from=20=

itching to the point to breaking skin and causing secondary infection. O=
atmeal=20
is very soothing and use it alot for poison oak etc. Did mom do a full co=
arse of=20
Diflucan treatment? Day one 400 mg, then 200 mg daily X 21 days? What=20=

about grapefruit seed extract and maybe some gentian on her nipples? Be=20=

sure to tell the mom that this isn't from "her" milk....It's from the ant=
ibiotics.=20=20
Glad to hear she is dairy free...Keep her away from sugars too. Yeast th=
rives=20
on sugar in our diet.=20=20

Subject: Forgot to explain something about the yeast

You stated the mom thought she had yeast in her ducts..
Thomas Hale recommends the 400mg/200mg dosing for deep ductal candidas.=20=
=20
I too had yeast, I also have eczema, and all the itching that goes with i=
t.  So,=20
bfing is the best thing she can do for this little one. Hopefully, mom c=
an stay=20
off antibiotics for awhile and let her natural flora build back up. Try =
some=20
homeopathic stuff like sugar free yogurt with tons of lactobacillis, and =
other=20
good bacteria. The more the better. or you can buy the capsules and tak=
e=20
that way. They are usually in the refridgerated section of the natural f=
oods in=20
any grocery store. Keep them refrigerated or they lose their effectivene=
ss.

Hope she gets relief.
