Dear Miss Idealism,

Please have patience with the midwives. Methinks that the intention is there
but the education is not. Help us. Tell midwives about Lactnet. ICBLC,s tell
us about the services you offer in your community and tell us about your
credentials. Many idf us do not know you exist. We have alot in common.
Point out the misinformation in the free literature. Tell us about the good
freebies. We are friends and allies.

My breastfeeding education began with Lactnet in 1997. Before that, I called
my LLL friend to help out with the few problems I saw in my homebirth
population. Then I left the USA and Lactnet became my lifeline, my teacher
and my mentor. So to all you lovely human beings out there, know that many
among you are my mentors. I am enormously grateful for the education and
support I receive on Lactnet.

So you wise women with the credentials, call your local midwifery school,
there's one in Seattle WA and Manchester, NH and Bridgeton, Maine and San
Francisco and New Haven and ask them if you can teach their breastfeeding
course......because they probably need you. Maybe they do not even know it
yet. Maybe they do not even offer a breastfeeding course. At the very least
see if you can give a talk to the student midwives and tell them what you
do. Breastfeeding is probably the most overlooked aspect of midwifery
education, maybe because we are grounded in normal. We sure could use
lessons in *normal variations * of human breastfeeding and lactation.

End of rant.

Blessings on you, sister idealism,

Lisa Boisvert-Mackenzie, Midwife
