Thanks to all of you who caught my mistake on the presence of omega 3 fatty
acids in vegan diets. There are indeed some omega 3's, but no DHA. DHA is
synthesized from linolenic acid, which is found in the oils listed (flaxseed,
canola, and walnut) in Anne Nans' post.
Sorry about the confusion. I didn't proofread that one well enough.
If you don't mind eating fish products it's easy to get omega 3's, including 600
mg of DHA in every teaspoonful, of cod liver oil. Codfish is an important
natural resource where I live, right after that North Sea oil we refine and
burn in our cars, and anyone who likes can come on over to my house for some
bacalao, made from salt-dried cod, known here as klippfisk, according to old
Portuguese recipes, and absolutely delicious. Unfortunately it contains very
little fat so we'll still have to get out the spoon and take our A & D & omega
3 supplement, for dessert. I don't have any stock in Peder Moller nor,
regrettably, in the klippfisk industry.
Actually I own no stock whatsoever, which simplifies any declarations I need to
make on financial conflict of interest considerably.
