Although I have been lurking quietly for some time and a little behind in my
digests, I have a request for the wise ones.

A mom I am phone counseling (the only way our group counsels) has a newborn
baby girl, Aug. 27th, 3120 grams at birth, 3200 grams at one week. The baby
is nursing fairly well, but may need surgery to remove a large (5cm
diameter) mole on her knee. The dermatologist wants removal ASAP, the
anesthesiologist wants to wait 6 weeks since the baby's risk for being
"under" means she would need to be intubated (according to anesth.) Even
after being told this the derm. says, surgery Sept 16th!

Mom is beside herself (as well as postpartum hormonal) and the father is a
neurosurgeon. He is all for interventions as he has been telling mom
all along that "baby will probably get melanoma" (we think he means
malignant as even I know there is also benign). This is outside of my
training to help with bfing problems. But I want to offer the mother
information so that *she* can make an informed decision.

Any idea? CC to me privately as well as to the list.
