I think a pacifier might help. See if baby will start to suck on it and
develop some sucking coordination or rhythm without fluid. If he does so
then maybe a nipple shield could be used to transition baby from bottle.
However, it certainly seems there is a possible neuromuscular abnormality in
this baby.  I would recommend to the parents that the baby be fully
evaluated by a competent specialist, like peds neuro or ENT. I would chose
the neurologist. Just because the baby can eat by bottle at this point, we
all know that is a silly thing to say, but what about eating other foods
later, not even to mention he should be able to breastfeed.
Hope parents pursue further evaluation of this infant.
