Hi all here I go again,

Divorce: I have gone as an expert witness for 2 women. In one case the MD
talked too. In the one case, after I talked, the dad changed his mind and
made arrangements for the mother to fly with the 10 mo. old and stay in a hotel
for visits. The only question that was a problem was my experience as a
psychologist. The mother's lawyer emphasized my experience as an educator and
an LC having seen the long term affects of abrupt weaning. We are special
experts and the lawyer needs to bring that out.

Bonding: Dr. Klaus's info came from his wonderful book "The Amazing Newborn"
(Making the Most of the First Weeks of Life) by Marshall H. Klaus, MD & Phyllis
H Klaus, M.Ed., CSW, Addison-Wesley Publishing Co., Inc. Its a great book.

Adoption: This is the information I have sent to some of you private so now I
will share it here. Twenty years ago, when this was just beginning, I saw
frustrated women trying to make milk for their adoptive baby. Then the light
went on with one mother who insisted on trying when I was trying to convince her
not to try. She again reminded me that breastfeeding was nutrition and nurture.
Adoption should focus on the nurture. This woman never got a drop of milk with
2 children but had to great breastfeeding experiences. Both children weaned at
about 2 years. When they were older and needed comfort, they nursed on the
empty breast. When they needed milk, they pushed on her breast and said hook
up.

Hope this helps. Diane Herforth, BAE,IBCLC,ICCE, Tacoma, WA
