I have just been informed that two of Nutricia Baby Oy (Royal Numico) owned
and Finnish food company Valio ltd manufactured peptide infant formula lots
have been contaminated with 10 times overdose of vitamine D.

We have the following information about the packets that are on that lot:

Valio PeptidiTutteli Imeväisen erityisvalmistejauhe (400g), best before
070706

Valio Gefilus PeptidiTutteli Imeväisen erityisvalmistejauhe (400g), best
before 070706

Manufacturer: Valio Oy, Lapinlahti factory Marketting: Nutricia Baby Oy

There is only a small add about this on the National Food agency website and
it is not even linked from first page. Neither Nutricia or Valio has yet
printed the information on their websites. The information tells that the
babys need to be stopped with the formula IMIDIATELY and that they are to
call their doctors about further instructions on care.
In the IBFAN group we are very worried that this is not going to rise up to
our newspapers and medias.

I have been studying this case for 3 hours now. There is 24h information
phoneline at Nutricia, but they are unable to tell how long this formula has
been for sale. They are able to tell that use of one month or more can harm
the babies growth, but they are unable to tell whether the formulas have
been around for that period or not. They are not able to tell how the faulty
infant formula has been found or how the mistake has been possible.

I am doing all my best to inform medias here about the situation, but I am
asking for information and additional tipping to international press about
this situation. If you have contacts to any large publisher in your country,
this time the foreign press attention would be needed.

Also I know that occational overdose of vitamine D is mostly harmless. But
if there is a doctor among IBFANers who knows about long term effects and is
able to provide me information or pdf:s, I will welcome any advice.

Sorry for all miswritten words and all. This has been a long evening and it
seems to last at least few hours more... I have been fighting for a year to
get National Food Agency Finland to take the issue of Infant formula safety
more seriously, and all the time I have been told what a safehaven Finland
is and how good we have things here compared to any country and how well the
companies handle their part on the security. There are NO govermental
laboratory studies done to infant formulas here, and I find that shocking!
