Hello Friends;
It has been a couple of years since I last posted to Lactnet. I am now
seeking the considerable wisdom of all of you in various lactation-related
fields on a subject that I know nothing about as a layperson. If a mom is
experiencing secondary infertility, and desires to take a fertility drug
and still nurse, is there any research out there regarding how even a small
amount of such drugs may effect a nursing infant or toddler? The drug in
the case I am concerned with is the injectible drug, Gonal. Would I be
correct in assuming that if it is an injectible drug as opposed to an oral
one, that the baby's ( in this case 2 1/2 year old)'s stomach acid would
destroy the medication and it would not get into the baby's system? Mom
obviously does not want to do anything that would harm the baby, and it is
a girl toddler, so she does not want to worry about stimulating the the
baby's ovaries in any way. Gonal is marketed as pure FSH. Mom is in her
early/mid fourties and has five kids already, all naturally conceived. She
would like one more but has been advised that it may take the fertility
medications to succeed.
We would appreciate any help you could send our way.
Thanks,
Betsy Koval
