Rice cereal does not effectively thicken breastmilk because of the amylase (an enzyme that digests carbs) naturally occurring in breastmilk. It is also not ideal because it adds calories and displaces the 'good stuff'.

Also, Simply Thick is no longer recommended for thickening EBM or ABM for preemies. (http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm256253.htm)
