We have a mom in the ER with rotavirus. I was just asked if there is
rotavirus in breastmilk "because what if she give it to the baby through her
milk?"
I've Googled and Lactnet archived and MY answser is, once the mom feels like
breastfeeding (she feels wretched and has had IV 3 L of fluid but is still
dehydrated) she should do so. But does anyone know the answer to this? (My
hypothesis is this is a GI virus and it's not likely to get into the milk
unless she was touching her nipples with her hands, not impossible, I
guess!)
