I would like to share.
I am in Chile and there are a lot of babies diagnosed with GERD.
One mother I saw last week told me that the pediatrician diagnosed her baby with the mildest case of GERD and he prescribed the following for the 4 months old baby: domperidone and malt. The baby is exclusively breastfed. He told her that domperidone would help the baby digest faster and the malt for the proteins/energy.
Isn't malt a laxative? why would he prescribe this in this case? I've only heard of domperidone given to a mother to boost up milk supply although it is also used to treat nausea and vomiting.
It would be interesting to read what you think about this.

Another trend here is that the mother will get a prescription for Sulpilan (sulpiride) at discharge. Most of the moms I have seen don't even have a clue that Sulpilan is a antipsychotic/antidepressant because the doctors only tell them that it will be good boost up their milk supply (even to mothers who wouldn't have a milk supply issue) A lot of them complain that they have low energy and they feel sleepy all the time. I had a husband call me once to tell me that he thought something was wrong with his wife because she wasn't the same since they got home from the hospital. After asking questions, she was also taking that drug.

Thanks for your input,
Nathalie
