Dear Lisa,
     Thank goodness there was someone who eventually came to help this poor mother.   I agree with Ann and her suggestions.
I also feel, having experienced it personally, that it might be the tube in her chest that is burning her and not a yeast infection.  You did say that the tube was on the same side as the "burning" breast.   The burning feeling may be aggrevated by moving the mother and latching on (ie tube moving as well).   I had a port-o-vac in situ after my hyst and it burns like fire!
