Sorry guys - I guess I didn't make myself clear. In an effort to pull
together the NYT article, Gore's movie, and feelings of guilt, I was
trying to say that we are going to provoke feelings of guilt, whatever we
do. Women who are aware of either risks or benefits and opt for ABM, are
going to feel bad, because they know that they have made a choice that is
not the optimal one healthwise for their baby. So we should not be afraid
of provoking guilt, when framing public awareness campaigns, because it is
almost impossible not to. I don't doubt that presenting the risks of ABM
might help convince some women to make the decision to bf, just that other
arguments are also guilt provoking.

And I don't believe in throwing around lot of easy money in re ad
campaigns, without fixing the huge underlying problems of our society that
sabotage women's efforts to bf.

I also just want to second what Kerry Ose said about being sensitive to
women who choose not to bf. There are a multitude of reasons why women
make these choices, and that we need to be careful not to do damage while
we are trying to do good.

Hope that is clearer!
Kathy
