We recently hired a Lactation Consultant. This is the first time that we
have had a dedicated line for this position although some of our staff
nurses are certified LCs. One of the things that I am planning on doing to
support this new position and our Lactation Program is creating a database
for use by the Lactation Consultant(s) to track contacts, patient problems,
educational needs, referrals, consults, follow-up phone calls, etc. I am
also planning on linking the database to standardized nursing language, ie.
NANDA, NIC, and NOC. If anyone on this listserv knows of a similar database
or if anyone is using a database to track LC services, I would appreciate
hearing from you. I hope this database will demonstrate the value of LC
services and identify areas of need for staff and patient education. You
mail email me privately. Thanks in advance.
