With respect to the discussion on the excessive use of car seats, the book
"The Vital Touch" by Sharon Heller addresses the importance of touch for a
baby's survival as it is the only sense which, if deprived, can cause
failure to thrive and death. She also discusses how touch and
breastfeeding assist attachment and bonding for the mom and dad. She
further discusses crying and the importance of parental response. (For
example, babies who are responded to swiftly and consistently cry 70% less.)

This book is a must read and very enjoyable. There is the conciliatory nod
to the inferior method of infant feeding, but supports breastfeeding
strongly. Parts are technical, but very up-to-date, including lots of info
gleaned from the latest research on brain development.

I outlined the book for my own use, and if you would like my outline, email
me privately.
