Our local organization that does home visits with moms, runs developmental screenings for toddlers, and early "head start" preschool for low income families contacted me a few weeks ago. They were having an required "education day" for all the staff - CPR in the morning, and some speakers in the afternoon. They contacted me to see if I would come and give an hour long talk on how they could better help breastfeeding moms continue to breastfeed (we have REALLY low rates locally).

I got to do a talk to 25 or so women - I spoke on "breastfeeding as NORMAL", myths associated with breastfeeding, how to talk/listen to moms, and most importantly who to refer to locally - LLL, support groups, and IBCLC's. It felt really well recieved. We had a fun time with a lot of laughter and questions and am just really glad that they contacted me to come do this! The question/answer session could have lasted another hour, but alas the police department was there next to do a carseat safety talk.

Feeling like I am finally making some headway in the local community.
