I have heard, from people at conferences, that the Isis breast pumps are
very effective/efficient for a manual pump. Much better than the kind you
buy at the corner drugstore.

At the same time, in my presentation on how breastfeeding is portrayed in
the media by various groups, such as formula manufacturers, bottle makers,
etc., I have many Avent ads. They are SO EASY to make fun of -- and they
are not at all supportive of breastfeeding, even while they claim that they
are.

For example, one ad says "All you need to breastfeed your baby . . . is an
Isis breast pump." Hmmm, and I thought you needed a breast and a baby.

Another says "The choice you want, the choice you need." The "want" is
illustrated by a mother breastfeed, and the "choice" by the father
bottle-feeding with an Avent bottle/nipple. So you want to breastfeed, but
you NEED to bottle-feed. The breastfeeding mother is shown in paler colors,
in the background, not making eye contact with the baby. The bottle-feeding
father is shown in brilliant colors, in the foreground, making lots of good
social eye contact with the baby. :(

The other one of theirs I love is the one that says something like "Now, a
bottle-feeding system so natural, baby won't be able to tell the
difference." Yeah, right.

So, even though their products may be good, they clearly are not interested
in promoting breastfeeding.
