>Below is my reply to Cheryl Forney's apology for posting the incorrect
information about Down Syndrome. I tried sending it to her personnally at
her America On-Line address, but she has apparently cancelled that, as well
as her subscription to LactNet. I feel terrible about this! Can anyone
find out who/where she is and get the message to her? She said in her
message to the Net that she was just repeating what a neonatalogist told
her. I'm sure that's true. The stories I could tell . . . . . If anyone
can help me reach Cheryl with this message, I would really appreciate it.

Please, Please, Please -- Don't drop your subscription to LactNet, and don't
give up persuing your certification (as a Lactation Consultant, I assume)!
I didn't mean for this to happen, just wanted to clarify that your
information didn't apply to sweeties like my Peter. LactNet is a wonderful
place to meet people, and learn all sorts of things. I am not a lactation
consultant, but an anthropologist, and I have learned so much about the
technical aspects of counseling mothers having difficulties with
breastfeeding. I would never presume to give technical advice myself to
nursing moms, but still am learning tons. One of the beauties of this sort
of communication is the many different viewpoints you get, the different
sources of information, the expertise from different quarters -- AND if
someone places something on the net that others don't think is good advice,
or isn't accurate, you get instant feedback. You are totally absolved, by
me, for posting your message about trisomies. The more I thought about it,
the more I decided you really were just confusing "15 and 18" with "18 and
21" as everything you posted does apply to "15 and 18." We had some good
friends who had a baby with Trisomy 18, and they did let her die, rather
than put her through multiple surgeries with no hope of a life beyond a
year. Please don't let this one slip-up affect your plans. We all make
mistakes -- I know I certainly do, and the beauty of them is that we can
learn from them. I will feel terrible if my knee-jerk reaction to any
negative statement about people with Down Syndrome should have this effect
on you. Please respond.

I am taking the private liberty to tell you I am sorry for the trisomy
