Dear friends,

In light of our list mother's request to limit posts to three per day, I
want to respectfully remind members to look for your answers in a lactation
textbook before posting to Lactnet. Please do not flame me for posting
this -- I have noticed that the posts with basic questions often go
unresponded to.

Because IBCLCs are often mostly self taught, some of us may not realize the
wealth of written literature that is available. We may justify not
purchasing these textbooks because they are expensive and we don't make much
money, or that we already know the basics and are doing ok. Yet most of us
would not even consider using a physician who did not have the latest
textbooks or journals in his/her field.

Lactation textbooks can be purchased in many places, La Leche League
International's catalog is one. Here is a partial list of recommended
reading:

-- The Breastfeeding Answer Book, third edition by Nancy Mohrbacher and
Julie Stock
-- Medications and Mothers Milk by Thomas Hale, 11th edition
-- Breastfeeding: A Guide for the Medical Profession, fifth edition by Ruth
Lawrence, MD
-- Breastfeeding and Human Lactation, third edition, by Jan Riordan
-- The Breastfeeding Atlas, revised edition by Barbara Wilson-Clay and Kay
Hoover
-- The Lactation Consultant In Private Practice, by Linda Smith
-- Core Curriculum for Lactation Consultant Practice by Marsha Walker
-- and JOIN ILCA and recieve the Journal of Human Lactation
