I've already written the CDC regarding the goofy advice.

Thinking about it, though, I'm wondering if the advice isn't assuming
that, because the mother has flu, someone else has immediately taken
over all the rest of the baby care day and night, and the baby is being
brought to the mother *only* for feedings. In this scenario, the
bottle-feeding mother would be completely isolated from the baby to
reduce exposure.

While this is unlikely to happen in the real world (maybe this instant
round-the-clock caregiver can appear even before the mother shows
symptoms, just to be on the safe side) it does make the advice more
understandable, if not any more sensible.

Do surgical masks really not block viruses?
