I recommended to a mom that she use the 1% solution of gentian violet,
and it was very irritating to the babies' mouths.  From now on, I will
suggest that moms use 1/2 % solution, which can be made by adding an
equal part of water to the 1 % solution. I've heard that irritation is a
rare occurence, but when it happens, it's very unpleasant!.  Just my 2
cents!
