We have a new anesthesiologist who now says "NO breastfeeding mother will be
able to put her baby to breast x 24 hrs after receiving Verset."

I showed him Dr. Hales book. He said "I don't want a dead baby on my
hands."

Please give me some suggestions to combat this.

Dear Wise Ones,

I've had a question about infant sensitivity to bovine proteins=20
coming through the mother's milk, and specifically querying whether=20
beef as well as dairy products can cause problems. My experience is=20
that it definitely can, and that a total elimination of both dairy=20
products _and_ beef from the mother's diet can result in complete=20
resolution of "colic", eczema, reflux, extreme wakefulness, and=20
general irritability in the exclusively breastfed baby. The enquirer=20
suggests that the allergic protein in cow's milk isn't present in=20
cow's meat - beef. I've just done a search of the archives and=20
found plenty of anecdotal reports, dating back to about 1995=20
(including my own!) attesting to the value of the mother doing a=20
complete elimination of all dairy products and beef in her=20
diet. I've also found the following in Breastfeeding and Human=20
Lactation (Riordan & Auerbach) 1999:

"Although cow's milk appears to be the single most frequenyt offender=20
in a mother's diet, other foods also have been implicated=20
....... They include beef, eggs peanut butter, wheat .... and=20
high-acid fruits and vegatables." (Ref: Chandra RK et al: influence=20
of maternal food antigen avoidance during pregnancy and lactation on=20
incidence of atopic eczema in infants. Clin Allergy 16:563-9, 1986).

Does anyone have any more information, or a more up to date reference=20
to share that confirms what we intuitively know - ie that the more=20
concentrated form of bovine protein in the meat is likely to also be=20
a problem for some EBF babies who are sensitive to cow's milk=20
proteins ingested by the mother?

Many thanks if you can help.
