SUBJECT: breastfeeding promo--fathers day
DATE: 05-16-97 16:49 EST
PRIORITY:

hi--I am the chair of the Contra Costa County breastfeeding task force and I
wanted to ask you all for some ideas to help us out. One of the things we want
to do is to have a calendar of activities to work from and get away from the
time crunch of "next event" stuff.

The other thing is to do a CE event in OCtober around postpartum lactation
support for pedis/staff and any OBs/staff that might see the woman/pair early
on--like within a week or two--looking at latch, swallow, the relationship and
not just the mechanics, with a dose of social marketing (i.e what do you have
up in your office walls?).

Questions: 1> do any of you have a "package" of holiday or commemmorative day
cards or messages or press release type stuff for Fathers day, mothers day,
earth day, or ideas on how to tie in to Secretaries day, labor (ha) day etc?
We managed to do valentines day and mothers day so far this year, and i know
WABA will have earth day type stuff.

We hope to figure out a tie- in to the food bank food drive stuff at some
point too, but if you or anyone else has already made up a list of connections
I would love to see it. Do you know of a master calendar of professional
recognition days/weeks e.g. national nurse week etc? I know of National
nutrition month of course, but other than that I am clueless.

2. Do you have any recommendations for speakers/formats for such a
conference? Right now we are thinking half day, with some breakouts for
really checking for good latch, swallowing, nurturing the mom-baby pair in
groups of a dozen or so if we can swing it.
Has anyone litereally done a "hands on" with LLL or other moms showing off
actual breastfeeding?
And of course cost is an issue> If theres anyone or group that does training
that is funded by their own grants/agency that would be nice. We could say we
are a nonprofit doing it for CPSP, or WIC or CHDP or whatever.

Thanks. Frances Sturgess [log in to unmask]
