I haven't seen my favorite use of first week logs mentioned: stool color.

If a baby's having mounds of yellow poop on Day 3, I don't much care how
often they're nursing. If he's having black ones on Day 4, I care a lot. I
sometimes give out a breastfeeding log, but when I do I usually tell them to
mess with the nursing frequency part only if they want to, but to pay
attention to stool color - that it's not uncommon to be a day behind what
the chart describes, but more than that and they need to call. Does anyone
else do the same?

As to diaper count after the first week, my favorite mother response is an
eye-rolling "aaugh!"
