I don't know who reads the Economist out there, but in the July 31-Aug 6
issue there is a feature on hunger and the developing world and the author
discusses the staggeringly positive impact that exclusive breastfeeding
would make on nutritional status there (they don't really get into the AIDS
issue except to say that being HIV+ and breastfeeding are incompatible,
unfortunately). Well, in the most recent issue (Aug 7-13), they feature
Nestle and make minimal mention of its bad history, relegating the boycott
to the concern of "idealistic teenagers" and glossing over its' practices in
the developing world.

Well, I've not had time to process this myself (I just read the articles
today) , and I don't have much background in public health, but this is
excellent fodder for a letter to the editor if anyone is game. If anyone has
good statistics on Nestle's recent impact on maternal and infant health
handy, I'd love to have them or at least the sources.

Thanks
