Dear Lactnetters,

I just wanted to give an update on the mom with continued pinched nipples.

The mother states breastfeeding is going well now, with little to no pain.
This occurred between 8-10 weeks pp. She states that what seemed to help
the most was positioning (leaning back to nurse) and using the shield. She
isn't using the shield anymore and only occasionally needs to lean back.
She states that breastfeeding is finally enjoyable. So apparently the
problem *was* an oversupply and forceful let-down which caused the baby to
clamp his jaws to cope.

Thanks for all of your suggestions and comments! Regarding the use of APNO,
I did give that info to the mom and she shared it with her OB who told her
that it wouldn't make a difference and wouldn't prescribe it. :-(

Thanks again,

Cindi Swisher, RN, IBCLC
