I am an evening clinical coordinator for Obs/Peds in a large acute care
hospital in NYC.  As I described in an earlier post, our IBCLC resigned and
her job is not being filled, all in the good name of downsizing.  We have
2500 deliveries per year, with big plans involving massive construction of
new LDRP's to increase census to 4000 within three years.

     We have an 80% breastfeeding initiation rate.  However, with early
discharge upon us and decreasing numbers of nursing staff (you know, the old
doing more with less regime ;-)  we would like to initiate some of the
breastfeeding teaching prenatally.

     Can those of you involved in this area please describe what route I may
take, any suggestions and pointers would be very helpful. Are prenatal
breastfeeding classes effective?  Do you mail a packet to parents with
breastfeeding information and a bib for further reading?
