Hello friends,

I am writing to you regarding a mother I am working with and saw for the first time yesterday. Here are the details:

Baby born at 41 wks via c/s after a failed induction due to dates.

Baby is now 3 weeks old.

Mom has been using APNO for cracks she developed early on (now just about healed), stopped using it a few days ago, and experienced strong symptoms of thrush in the days that followed. Since she suspected she had thrush, she restarted the APNO but found it stung severely when she applied it this time. Mom will see her OB/Gyn tomorrow to discuss possible diflucan.

Baby's latch is not great, causing distortion and vasospasm. We are working on it.

Mom's c/s incision is not healing all that well and we suspect infection. She will discuss with her OB tomorrow.

Here's the puzzling part: During her pregnancy, she developed redness in both breasts. It is uniform redness that is not blotchy or streaked. She has no other signs of mastitis (no fever, no lumps, no sore spots other than her thrushy nipples). The reddened area is not painful, though it is warmer to the touch than the rest of her chest. Not hot though, and I know it is normal for early post-partum breasts to be a little bit warmer to the touch, but not red. She is not engorged. Is it possible for mastitis to cause this kind of perfectly even redness in both breasts? Starting in pregnancy? No other obvious mastits signs?

What else could this be?

Thanks for your thoughts,
