Hi all,
My own experience of nursing my three children on fast days and those of
many mothers in my community has been that the milk supply has not been
reduced. It may be an uncomfortable day for the mother, but it is a pretty
hard day for those who are not lactating too. If mothers were made to feel
that they had to choose between their religious beliefs and nursing, many
would stop nursing. The Jewish religion is highly supportive of nursing
(just read the Bible! ) and sensitive to those situations where fasting would
be detrimental to the mother's or the babies' health. Let's not add another
reason for a mother to choose not to nurse.
