sorry but i don't buy the inflated weights theory. will need more solid evidence before i am convinced. i do newborn followup with bf babies and have done so for many years. the most weight loss i believe i have seen is 14%. these babies are invariably poor feeders or 'not really feeding' feeders, and you are almost guaranteed jaundice, some dehydration, with decreased skin turgor, and concentrated urine, 'brick dust' and lack of stooling. you can identify these infants just by look, even before you put them on the scale.
usual weight loss i see in hospital is 2-7%.
what i have seen alot of is incorrect documentation of weights. many errors i have detected on charts and in nursery logs. i think if one is seeing large wt losses but baby looks great, then maybe early weights were in error. this has been my experience over and over again.
