Hi Leslie,
I checked a couple of online sites about zantac and found constipation is,
indeed, a common side effect. However, in an infant, I would want to make
sure the weight gain is good, before writing it off as constipation.

For the baby who had tongue-tie issues, I would suggest that the mother
return to the peds ENT and ask that the tongue tie be clipped, due to the
problems they are having. Maybe letting him know that she wants to
breastfeed for a long time (perhaps he doesn't see this much) and also
letting him know that you feel the reflux might improve with tongue release.
An alternative would be to seek a second opinion (after trying to find one
who is usually more willing to clip). Sometimes the doctor thinks it is not
necessary but will do it if requested, since he did concur this did exist
anatomically.

For the baby who doubled his birthweight in about 8 wks, have you and mom
considered oversupply issues, which can be controlled and possibly resolve
the need for reflux meds?
