breastfeed for "convenience" rarely last more than six weeks.>>
I worked with a mom who fed her baby expressed breast milk only for six
months. BFing got off to a rocky start (sore nipples) & I met her later when
she came to LLL. I supported her, as did the LLL Group & and we offered
gentle sugestions to get baby back on breast. After several months of seeing
that she was still only pumping, I finally thought to ask her if she was
actually interested in physically bfing & found out she wasn't! We stopped
offering back-to-breast hints & just continued the support. Seems her doctor
told her breastmilk was best until 6 months, and she pumped until the baby's
6 mo. birthday & quit! I imagine if he'd have said a year, she'd have
continued to pump that long.
