I am so happy to see Henya`s message. Where is our rule about not being
judgmental. Those of us who are blessed with children conceived without
assistance cannot possibly understand the anguish of couples who suffer
years of fertility problems, treatments, hopes and disappointments. When
that wonderful miraculous day comes when the treatment works and a pregnancy
is sustained how heartbreaking would it be to deliberately abort any of
those babies. It is true that medical advice is logical - give some of
those babies a chance to live or possibly lose them all. But the heart says
something else.
In Israel we see many large families, sometimes with as many as 12 children
but they are not all born at the same time. While I am not part of that
ultra-orthodox community I do work with them and I am so impressed by their
family values.
These parents of the octuplets deserve our praise for their bravery. I hope
they get support, not in the form of media exposure (remember the horrors
endured by the Dionne quins!) but by friends and family, neighbours and
volunteers. I wish I lived near them - I wouldn`t mind changing a few
nappies a day!
