"My first thought was that mom’s milk did come in...

areola. The areolar edema would be exacerbated by pumping, effectively
blocking off the flow of milk. A perfect situation for RPS.(reverse pressure
softening)
Inability to move milk could then result in involution.
What do others think?"
~~~ Although we will never know, this makes sense. I've seen a few moms who
 just don't get a full supply, and some whose supplies seem ridiculously
low  taking into account other factors that make it appear there is no reason
for  this. But sometime these moms were very fluid-overloaded, in
combination with  expression techniques that didn't work - either the pump couldn't
work  around the issue and no one suggested RPS, or the mom never had a good
pump/was  never taught expression, or didn't use expression of any kind
regularly, even  after the initial overload effect was past. The bodies of so
many women are  having to work under very unnatural milk-making conditions
these days.
Peace,
Judy
