Hi - Just prepared a staff meeting for tomorrow on Antiphospholipids
syndrome (APS), Systemic Lupus Erthematosus..etc. APS are a potenial cause
of recurrent pregnancy loss. These antibodies are associated with scattered
placental infarctions (blood clots) arterial or venous thrombosis,
thrombocytepenia and connective tissue disease. The presence of cardiolipid
antibodies and/or lupus anticoagulant antibodies and one or more of the
above clinical manifestations is referred to as antiiphospholipid syndrome.
See JOGNN March/April 1997 Volume 26 Number 2 Pg 162 (Antiphospholipid
Antibodies: A Threat Throughout Pregnancy)
Also you might want to read this article ifrom Medscape. "Impact of the
Antiphospholipid Syndrome: A Critical Coagulation Disorder in Women."

I am presenting this because of the hogwash I got about not
breasfeeding because of antibodies. Reminds me of how years ago they said
that mothers who were RH - couldn't breastfeed their RH + babies.
Hope this helps - Toby Gish (Haifa
Israel) RN, IBCLC
