<If the baby doesn't vigorously
nurse q3h, the staff seems to make it their personal challenge.>

Performance anxiety on their part? Does that make them a "bad nurse" if
they can't "quantify and record (ounces/minutes) on the chart" as
Gretchen says? They seem to be between a rock and a hard place.

They want to go through what they erroneously believe are the right
motions, to be known as supportive to breastfeeding. And yet they know
they will probably be criticized by those who would ordinarily give
formula in such a situation. Perhaps they feel damned if they do and
damned if they don't.

<They will force the infant to the breast and in the long run cause a
complete aversion.>

Just like the "deep throat" tactics used so often with a rubber nipple in
feeding babies in the nursery! Buncha' control freaks there? Sounds like
THEY have an aversion to you and to common sense!

Don't they think these babies' heads might hurt as much as their mommies'
perineums? Are they in denial about the effects of labor interventions?
You do have a problem on your hands! I hope you get some helpful
references to "ram down THEIR throats"!

Is there ANYTHING they are doing that you could honestly praise? As much
"honey" as you can find to use might gather more flies than any vinegar
(outright criticism) you might be tempted to dole out.

(BTW, your suggestion to the mom was RIGHT ON!)
