The hospital where I work plans to draft its first-ever "breastfeeding
policy." Hooray! We are advancing breastfeeding promotion in small but
noticeable steps ....

Would any of our Lactnet friends be willing to share the policies as they
are written for your institutions? If you want to XXX out your
organization's name, that is fine. Any cogent comments about what works,
and why, would be appreciated.

To set the stage: This hospital has about 1,200 birth per year, and opened
a Level II NICU about nine months ago. The hospital contracted with one
IBCLC to provide services by IBCLCs; she, in turn, has subcontracted to two
other IBCLCs to help her provide the service. Thus, we are not hospital
employees as such. Currently, we are on the maternity ward every other day.
We see all BF dyads, do two+ follow-up phone calls upon discharge, and
refer to the local support group.

You may e-mail me privately if you would prefer to not clog up Lactnet.
Thank you.

Liz Brooks, JD, IBCLC
Wyndmoor, PA, USA
