Hi, everyone. My mind keeps turning, mixing and juxtaposing
breastfeeding, culture change and the concept of placing bf as the norm
and formula feeding as substandard, poor alternative, unhealthy, etc.,
mixing it with an accusation made to me years ago (that I was trying to
impose an Anglo-Saxon - read American - fad on the Israeli culture),
pureeing in what I'm planning to say at my meeting with the Ministry of
Health Southern director, adding to it all the spice of my lecture to med
students, etc. in March.
Is it reasonable to compare a campaign to make bfing the norm with the
campaign to get all babies vaccinated? Seems to me it is, but I'm
prejudiced (slightly), so maybe I'm not viewing it rationally. Just
trying to think of comparisons I can use with people with
medical/epidemiological backgrounds who pay lip service to bfing
benefits, but don't see it as a critical factor in preventive medicine.
This is one of my big gripes, BTW, and I've been wrestling with "reasonable"
approaches to bring the above types around to my (our) way of thinking.
Anybody have something to say? Suggestions? You guys who are so brilliant
with your analogies/comparisons? Kathy Dettwyler - on culture change?
Judy Knopf, whose mind is making like her blender so she can't sleep at
night...., which is probably the reason for her being somewhat
incoherent here, in Beer Sheva, Israel [log in to unmask]
