This baby reminds me of another situation.... The babe had no real interest
in eating -- turns out that eating actually made her ill, and limiting her
intake was a survival mechanism.

She has an enzyme deficiency that sharply limits the amounts of protein she
can handle at a time. If she had more than the tiny amount of protein she
could tolerate, ammonia levels in her bloodstream would rise to dangerous levels.
The baby was hospitalized for FTT and ended up going comatose from the
feedings she was given in the hospital.

Unfortunately, in this child's case, she wasn't diagnosed until gone into a
coma and already suffered some brain damage from the ammonia in her
bloodstream. (As of ~3 years of age, her IQ was measured at 68.) The fact that this mom
exclusively -- and very determinedly! -- breastfed her daughter probably saved
the child's life and minimized the damage that may have been done by the much
higher protein load of dairy formulas.

I'll add my voice to the chorus suggesting the possibility of a metabolic
disorder. They're rare, but they're out there, and potentially very damaging.
This babe should be seen by someone who can diagnose or rule out one of these
asap.
