Clearly we are not going to completely agree on this, however, there is
significant research that shows EXCESS sugars (any -ose ending sugar
molecule) after NATURAL weaning can lead to insulin resistance (especially
those consumed throughout the day and night--as opposed to at one discrete
time). Indeed, lactose, as well as sucrose, dextrose, and even our beloved
fructose, all can contribute to the inability of our bodies to appropriately
respond to insulin over a period of years. Again, I'm not suggesting that
ANY substitute except water be used in place of milk after weaning (I'm not
talking about weaning at 6 mo or a year either). If you read my previous
statements more clearly, I think this would be apparent.

It is fine for you to continue doing what you do, but I'm will persist in:
spreading information regarding this point; teaching my college nutrition,
women's health, MCH, and wellness course students as well as patients about
the perils of cow-milk; and continuing to conduct Outcomes research on bf
related topics. Contrary to what you might want people to think, I am not
part of a weird cult. I will happily provide you with my CV (PhD & MPH from
UCLA), including a long list of peer reviewed publications, USPHS grants,
private foundation funding of my research and awards. I also served LLLI
for 6 years (including two as the Research Review Comm. Coordinator, two as
Area Professional Liaison for Oregon, and all 6 as an active LLL Leader),
and I continue to serve the American Public Health Association's Medical
Care Section Council as a policy reviewer.

The issue of homogenization causing heart disease and diabetes will continue
to emerge over the next several years; still, given the long standing base
of convincing primary research (most blocked by the Am. Dairy Council), I
don't choose to be a part in recruiting guinea pigs into a huge experiment
regarding the ill effects of this process. Human history goes much further
back than the age of domestication of dairy animals. There is a clear
demarcation of the negative effects of this "evolutionary" step (as Kathrine
D. explained). If you've never seen this research, I urge you to look into
it before you slam those of us who are taking an alternative route and
making that option available to others.

I'm not saying that every person who promotes milk is part of a conspiracy,
however you should know that when markets are threatened, industry can and
will do whatever is necessary to protect their interest. Take STEVIA for
example...the Aspartame manufacturer and sugar cane lobby have spent many
resources to block this natural sweetener from being brought to market (even
the cook books for it) in the US. This is in spite of the fact that it
actually stabilizes blood sugar, has 1/200th of the caloric and carbohydrate
content of sugar, doesn't cause tooth decay, and has decades of flawless
track record in other countries. Something to consider...sometimes we are
not as "free" to access information as we'd like to believe.
