In the frequent home visits I have been to recently, I've  noticed that
generally, the cleaner and more  spotless  the mother's home, the more
difficulty she has accepting  the notion of abandoning the clock and
scheduled feedings in favor of the babies cues.  Being in control is a very
high priority for these mothers, and it seems  that regardless of how
complex the actual breastfeeding problem is, these attitudes  are often the
greatest barrier to a mother's compliance and success. I know this is
nothing new and it has been discussed on lactnet before,  but I was
wondering if any of you can suggest some strategies for helping these
mothers.  It is not enough to tell them to switch their priorities, that
breastfeeding is more important than a spotless home that functions by the
clock.  The attitudes are deeply rooted personality traits which are all
too often culturally reinforced.   How can we help these mothers who
actually may be very motivated to breastfeed, but have great difficulty
letting go of their control and allowing it to shift the baby?
