Deb,
THANK YOU so much for voicing your opinion on this topic. It couldn't of
been said better.
Apparently I happen to be one of the biggest offenders on this list. I have
thought and thought for months about several private posts I have received
from the list moms and I have just tried to put all my hurt feelings aside.
I apologize if I have offended anyone with my "soliciting" on this list. I
work hard to keep my site up to date, to stay current and to share info with
those whom I think may be interested in learning it and to keep everyone up
to date with Jack Newman's articles in the formats in which they are asked
for.
I have been instructed by the list moms in no uncertain terms that I may not
list my Amazon store in my sig file, this is advertising. I want to make it
clear that *I personally do not make any profits* from my website, it is a
labor of love to help moms and my fellow professionals. The few dollars
that I do generate via the Amazon store go directly back to paying for and
improving the site. As did the generous donations received from so many
wonderful people on this list in the last month. (Thanks and hugs again to
you)
This is the only list I have ever been on that I truly feel intimidated by
the owners... I don't feel it offers a caring, friendly environment for
sharing of information and learning. Others have posted to me personally
that they in essence feel the same...
I would like to respectfully suggest that we take a poll on what the members
feel is appropriate for the list.

Sincerely,
Cindy

Subject: [LACTNET] Reminder about Lactnet guidelines

In a message dated 2/18/2005 11:50:27 A.M. Eastern Standard Time,
[log in to unmask] writes:

There are websites for conference advertising. Most educational programs
have their own websites, businesses likewise. Lactnet is an
advertising-free zone.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Rachel,

I know of a couple of BF related conference websites, and a couple of
educational program websites, those are easy to go to for such info,
.....and I
know of several reliable BF business websites, and a few BF info type
websites,
which may sell stuff, or not, ....all these I recall learning about through

LN.

When I've come to know LN members, previous or current, through their
postings over the years, and at some point learn of their website or
business, I
already feel some confidence in their knowledge and therefore am comfortable

with referring BF moms to their sites, or books, or services, ....for
example,
Kathy Dettwyler, Jack Newman, and breasfeedingonline.com.

I do understand the advertising concern, esp when it seems someone is on LN

*just* to advertise, not to participate in the process, that does not seem
to
happen very often?, ....anyway, I would be sorry to lose the knowledge and
networking gained through LN about members websites and businesses,
........and
for that matter their work, where they work, how they got that job, what
they provide as far as services and products.

For instance, I did not know for a quite a while that a prominent LN member

worked for a popular pump company, ...I would be very interested if she
posted about how she got that job, what her role is, what the day to day
work
includes, and, can I refer BF moms to her via the company website?

And, I liked it back when on LN you could click right onto a members link
from their post or signature line, .....that was user friendly for my
interest
and needs.

So, question: if a website does not sell stuff is it still *advertising* to

post the website address, either in a post or in a sig line?

Whew! such dilemmas! ........not sure what the solutions are but thank you
for being patient with clarifications.
