Dear Linda:
I am an in-patient lactation consultant with Presbyterian Hospital
in Charlotte, NC. I am their night lactation consultant and work 11-7 shift.
Our department added this shift 9 months ago and my job is to assist
mothers at night. Working this shift, I help Moms with their first feedings
and get them off to a good start. Also, I am there to assist with those
cluster feeds at night and assist to pump. If Mom chooses not to room in
with baby, I take the baby to mom and assist with feedings and take baby
back to nursery. Alot of teaching takes place during my shift and the staff is
appreciative that I am there and available. It is also an interesting time to
answer staff questions and teach. This shift makes fora very busy night but,
it works so well for our Department with positive outcomes.
