Dear all

Another interesting note from Peter Hartman

Re Pat Gima

It is unlikely that BGH in milk would be a problem for human consumption =
as
it is likely that it is broken down in the digestive tract after
consumption. BGH is injected into the cow to bye pass the digestive =
tract.
Furthermore, women respond to human prolactin rather than human growth
hormone and human growth hormone appears to be far more lactogenic in =
other
species than BGH.

The mammary gland of the dog can synthesise lots of Growth Hormone. =
When
they first tried to give a dog 'conraceptive pill', they produced a pseudo
pregnancy and lactation. The production of growth hormone from the =
mammary
glands of these dogs was so great that it produced acromegaly causing the
death of the dogs. So growth hormone can be synthesised de novo and milk
normally contains growth hormone. Dairy cows were bred to produce an
oversupply of milk (far in excess of their calve's needs). BGH stimulates
them to produce even more (on average 30% more) than they were bred to
produce. Re the oversupply when mothers are on dairy products. It is an
interesting observation that needs to be explored. It is possible that =
the
observation is correct. However, I would like to keep an open mind on =
what
the factor is in the dairy products that causes the oversupply in these
mothers.

Cheers

Peter
