I have also seen the same thing - too small of flanges = wet tubing.
Also some moms with large milk supply, membranes that weren't cleaned
properly so weren't opening. Almost never see this with Classic or
Lactina because the positive pressure part of the pump cycle pushes open
the membrane allowing the milk to fall through to the bottle. In large
supply especially with standard flange, the milk builds up so full
before it hits the bottle (remember the forcefulness of let-down Donna
Ramsey spoke about?) that there can be overflow into the tubing. The
positive cycle pushes this milk down quicker. The larger flanges also
have longer area before hooking to the connector so more room for milk.
That's my take. Anyone seen overflow into the tubing when hooking up to
a Harmony pump body or a Swing pump body? The design in the connector is
a little different and I wonder if that solves the overflow problem? As
I've said before, I've also seen women with large supplies have the same
thing happen to their Ameda's - somehow milk up in the tubing where the
volume overflowed upwards. Again, I'm thinking a membrane that is stuck
and doesn't open properly, large volume, etc.
