It is not the usual thing to have a hospital pay for the exam. In the last
ten years, working as a RN, the hospital paid for nothing. No educational
time, no money, over budget. Every conference, workshop, class, and book
came out of my own pocket. I know many RN/IBCLC who are in the same
position, self-funded.
So along with spending the years in college, 4, studying A&P, statistics,
sociology, psychology, etc. that allowed me to get on the LC fast track and
only have 2500 hours to sit the exam, I paid for everything. I had to pay
for the RNC exam, another $250.00, which the hospital required/ in lieu of
45 CEUs annually.
SO, don't be envious, this anecdotal nurse is very rare!
