To add to Aileen's references, my favorite site is this: Latrobe
University's Microbiology Dept:
http://www.latrobe.edu.au/microbiology/milk.html
You'll find tables of antiviral, antibacterial & antimicrobial factors in
breast milk - it's a LIVING thing. NO formula has any of these protective
factors. It does state that these have been shown "en vitro" to be
protective, but many have also been proven "en vivo" also. Yes, this site
does show some contaminants, but they are from known infections in mom, or
from improper handling after pumping, etc. See additional articles at the
end of the main one.
