Lactnuts,
When asked about the myths on bf site and direct maternal smoking as opposed
to passive smoking, Lisa shares "There was a strong negative effect
modification by breast feeding: relative odds of respiratory proneness with
maternal smoking were seven times higher among children who were never
breast fed than among those who were breast fed... "
While I do not dispute this, I also worry about what another poster said
about cotinine levels being high in infant's urine. So, playing devil's
advocate I will remind all: resp. problems may be less, but OTHER PROBLEMS
may be higher (?CNS,? Urinary tract). Therefore, I don't think we can be
reassuring, but comes back to the credo "mothers who bf should not smoke."

Laurie Wheeler, RN, MN, IBCLC - waiting for dh who resumed smoking this year
after 15 yrs of abstinence, to quit one day again
